Judging by the distance from the edge of the sign to the first and last letter it looks like there could have been a first name panel to go along with it. Chevron did that.... I've been dealing on a very similar sign in the same colors that says "Spuds". Here is a much smaller proprietor sign in the same colors. Just took another look at the thread before posting and it looks like Dennis has nailed it.
