Any tips on installing the glass in a 1953 Gilbarco Pump?

First of all, welcome to Oldgas. The best darn petro site on the web. As for installing the glass, Gilbarco made a few different pumps. 1953 is only the production year, of that pump. Double check the tag for a model number. If there is no tag, post a picture of the pump. I pulled the Parts List for the 904 and all the G&B pumps that were probably in production in 1956, but the lists don't show how to install the glass. Since all the G&B pumps from this period have flat glass I would use the string method, this has been discussed many times on this site.
