Never been to this show. Is the fall or spring show better? And how does it compare to other shows like Iowa Gas?

Doug, Iowa would still be my favorite but Dixie is a very laid back show and has very good vendor participation and a great buying crowd. While the past two spring shows have been the largest yet, the fall show is still the best one if you can only make one. Henry, sorry you can't make it. Looks like you're having fun in Europe. Be careful and see you around. Guess someone will have to step up and take pictures since Henry won't be here. I know "Reb" does a great job also! Been packing the truck tonight(last night actually). Going to try and bring some different items with me. Come check me out in the "barn" on the left past the concession stand. Roger Cherry and I will be there. Pat

Great pics Reb. Disappointing to see all the reproduction signs that are intermittently spread out.

I could only attend today as my Dad was having hip replacement and had to get home this evening.
Number of vendors was great, maybe a bit more spread out than usual so I and others ended up on the grass well above the white house and 2/3 up the hill road.
I'm not sure whether it was where I was located up the hill, but I felt like today's attendance was maybe off or dwindled rapidly. Likely due to the high heat 95-97... yikes for eastern TN!
Since my mind was preoccupied I only made it around about 1/2 the grounds so I didn't get to see all there was to see.
I know when I packed and left I wasn't the only one as several were heading out, however there should still be a great field full tomorrow as some were moving off the hill to fill in lower locations. And I know of at least a few who will be staying for Saturday to catch the car show traffic too.
Unlike the spring show I didn't see any particular sign stick out as 'everyone had one'. In the spring a load of hog signs got distributed across the field so if you saw one you saw about 40.
I'll be back in the spring next year, I just hope we cool down by then! If not I might have to pack a kiddie pool and about 100 gallons of water!

Everybody is always bitchin about repro signs. Why do they allow them to sell'em. They have long been a part of the market (since the 80's). It use to be with foreknowledge that a sign was sold as a reproduction and not passed off as original. With the prices for originals going extremely high and yet new broad interest in signs constantly pushing the market a segment of people have chosen to pass off reproductions as real. At a sign show long time vendors should know which is which and represent them honestly. The price should be commensurate in value to authenticity. The existence of reproductions and the pressure to have cheaper signage that new entrants or dabblers in signage can afford means that many vendors will bring such signs for the novice collector or person simply looking for a cheap sign to hang. It is when unscrupulous vendors choose to pass off reproductions as authentic that the issue arises. The nice thing about a sign show is you can ask several vendors their opinion/experience with a particular sign. I know I have been approached about signs and asked to proffer my opinion as to authenticity. I do what I can to ensure I inform those people of what I know and don't know about such signage. Whenever I have such signs I tell people they are reproductions/fantasy and price them accordingly. For example, I was able to buy one of the plastic Shell embossed signs and resell it for a minor profit the same day. The sign was to be hung outside and the buyer didn't want something valuable or whose destruction or loss would be heavy on the pocket, so it fit the bill even at the show.
