Is this listing from any of you? I was going to bid on this through the actual listing. I really figured this one to be real. The font looks crisp compared with what I would say are known fakes of this sign. Any thoughts? http://www.ebay.com/itm/FAKE-PORCELAIN-Sunoco-MOTOR-OIL-Sign-Gas-Auto-/222270768023BTW, I love this tactic for calling out fakes!!!!

Steve... I'm with you. I had also guessed this sign to be real. The eBay sold auctions on the Anty-nok signs from Rustyrelics/ Rustykrinkles are nothing like this one. Holes are different , no markings, sloppy fonts, etc. I have not seen any eBay sold auctions on this type of Sunoco sign unless I'm missing it somewhere.

Dont know why I didn't think of this first, I wrote him to ask his theory on why this is fake. Also, although quickly, I looked through all my old Sunoco pics and countless saved ads and pics of blotter.... And never did I see the phrase, "anty-nok". It was always "knockless". Hmm.....???
Does anyone have any proof that this sign or phrase was ever used by Sunoco? Thanks!!!

Just looking through old auction listings I did see this same type sign sold at Morphy's Jan 9/10 2016 auction. I think this was the Kyle Moore stuff. Definitely the same version of sign, with same markings. But I agree with Steve --> would love to see this sign in use. Judging from the mounting hole on the one end, and another towards the middle, this did mount differently than others. Really curious how it was used. http://morphyauctions.hibid.com/lot/22606173/sunoco--anty-noc-gas-at-regular-gas-price--sign-/

I wrote and asked the second guy with the anti fake sign 10K listing his theory on why he thinks the sign is fake.
His response:
I've started seeing a few fake signs with the makers mark. I'm no expert and took it as real too at first. Like I said, I emailed him about a buy it now. That's when he told me he had two and would sell the other one for $265. I agreed and sent him money. I then started asking questions and that's when he told me he knew where 30-40 where and they had been buried. This is a classic way that people are fake aging signs. They bury them in pig *****. Anyway, after more questions, he became unresponsive and then just returned my money. Rustyrelicsart and rustykrinkles sell about 300 fakes a month. Check them out. Some look very real. I obviously have no way of proving that this is 100% fake but why would someone bury 30-40 of these signs??? Just not realistic to me. Those two I mentioned have sold several of these without the makers mark. The makers mark wouldn't be hard to add by a fake sign producer. And other than that, the signs are identical. Thanks. Daniel
Rob, that morphy's listing kinda mucks things up a bit. I was going to bid on this but no way now. More research to be done.

All I found so far is this. It's a blotter from 1928 that has the same phrase "regular gas prices" and it has more or less the same font as the sign. Not much. But it's something. In the end, I didn't bid. Just wasn't feeling it.

FWIW, found this 1926 newspapaer ad advertising a new station with "Antynok" gasoline. Damn sign likely is/was real deal.

Maybe that's the new way to get something for less money....run an ad/auction to scare people from bidding on it so you can scoop it up cheaper. LOL
Thanks Mike
