Hello from Salt Lake , I have enjoyed watching this site for a long time and appreciate everyone on it . I have been a collector of old things most of my life . Anyways this westcott sign has been in my collection a long time and I know nothing about the company , it came out of idaho . And I have also seen a globe with the same logo 20 years ago in Idaho as well at a different location, I regret not trying to buy this globe . Does anyone know the history of this company ? Thanks Peter

Welcome to Oldgas. I would be surprised if someone on this site can not answer your question. Good luck!

Welcome to Oldgas. This is the information from the globe reference cd on this company:

WESTCOTT OIL COMPANY - BOISE, ID:
Founded in 1920 by C. J. Westcott, the company was originally Westcott Allen Oil Company, an Idaho Conoco jobber that was owned by Conoco from the 1930s until 1956, then spun back off to its original owners, who had remained in management of the company during the era when major oil companies were buying up their jobbers.

The only globe shown in the book used WESCO as the logo and not the Westcott name like your sign. If the globe you saw said Westcott on it then it might have been a variation not known in today's circles. These small regional companies often had variations of signage and globes made in small quantities and few survived over the years. The globe in the book is a rarity 6 which means only one is known to exist and there is no price listing for it. Too bad you didn't grab that globe years ago, it would've been a great investment! Your sign must be pretty scarce also. By the way, you have a very nice collection of other petro items by looking at your picture. ......GB

That globe is not in the book. You might send that picture to Scott Benjamin at PCM, if he doesn't see it here.this might be a new discovery that he will want to put in the next book and he also puts the new discoveries that are found each month in the PCM magazine. Thanks for sharing the picture.....GB
