Here I am to give this a shot. So bear with me everyone.
To resurrect this thread I thought that I would start off with a super common pump to get everyone involved. The pump of the month for March 2017 is Tokheim 39. This can be any model 39, whether it is a short or tall. So please post whatever pump you have to get this thread started off right!
The Tokheim 39 was first introduced by Tokheim in 1938 and was made in various styles up until 1959. Here are the models of 39:
Tokheim 39: 1938-1958. Tall computer pump with two or four ad-glass panels, came in a single or twin pump. Tokheim 39-SL: 1938-1958. Tall or short computer pump made for a stationlighter top. Tokheim 39-ESP: 1938-1958. Tall computer pump with hanging hose. Tokheim 39-DP: 1938-1958. Non-computing clockface pump with hanging hose. Tokheim 39-HR: 1939-1958. Four ad glass panel pump with hose on reel. Tokheim 39-WNC-HR: 1938-1958. Two ad glass panel pump with hose on reel. Tokheim 39: 1939-1959. Standard pump with metal guards around hose reel. Tokheim 39-NAP: 1939-1958. Non ad glass pump sold with standard globe. Tokheim 39-WNC: 1939-1958. Non computing pump with two ad glass panels. Tokheim 39-HS: 1939-1959. High speed computing pump. Tokheim 39-TW: 1939-1958. Tidewater special pump, four ad glass pump. Tokheim 39-LHR: 1947-1952. Short pump, Lower pump, hose on reel, bezel around window protrudes from the door. Tokheim 39L-EZ: 1947-1959. Short pump, Face bezel protrudes from the door, the hose exits at the top of the pump. Tokheim 39L-RA: 1947-1959. Short pump, hose is on a cable. Tokheim 39L-EZ: 1949-1959. Short pump, rubber seal holds window glass, doors hing, and hose exits at the top on the side of the pump. Tokheim 39L-EP: 1949-1959. Short pump, Rubber holds window glass, doors hinge, hose exits at the top, has an ad glass panel under the window on each side. Tokheim 39L-RP: 1949-1959. Same as the 39L-EP, but with the hose on a cable. Tokheim 39-A: 1952-1959. Short pump, Rubber holds glass in, door lifts off, no hinges, locks at the bottom of the pump, hose on cable. Tokheim 39-AP: 1952-1959. Same as the 39-A, but with an ad glass panel under each window. Tokheim 39-B: 1952-1959. Here are my 3 pumps everyone. Please show what you have. I showed the inside of the pump on my 39-SL. My Mobil pump is a 39-AP. And my tall 39 is just a common tall 39. Please share what you have everyone!

Yea! A POTM I can participate in....since I only have 3 pumps. Being a downtown apartment dweller limits what you can have, which is good I guess. I found this pump 5 or 6 years ago from a walk in customer in the store I work in. I knew this elderly lady lived on a farm, so I asked her one day if there was ever a pump on the property. She said yes, and it's still in the barn, and it didn't sell at the garage sale I had last week! Needless to say I got right down there and bought myself a pump. I've done an oil base brush job on it as I always liked how Shell globes look on top of 39's. After adding a decal at some point, I'll add the "rustoration" coat and call it good. I've had it like this for over a year, as I like it like it is now too..... Darin

Great thread !! This is one of the 4 different 39 's I have original gulf, I'm assuming this was a tall pump at one time because it's 6 inches taller than a short 39, unless gulf had them made that way? I don't know. Either I think it's cool. thanks nick

This is the only pump I have right now. This is how I found it. Asked the guy if he knew were the doors where he said no, so I started to dig around and frowned them both laying under the guys oil burner that was mounted to the wall covered by a few flat pieces of cardboard. When I pulled them out he said what the heck did I put them there for haha.

This is my only 39. I bought it in pieces with a basket of parts so no before pics. I'm not in the shop right now so not sure of the exact model number but I'll try to look and add it tomorrow. I never knew there were so many different variations of this pump until I started to restore this one. They are great pumps, everybody should have at least one!....GB

Braden great job on resurrecting POTM form. You chose the only pump that I have two to contribute. First is an original 39 short Derby pump and the other is a 39 tall with an older restoration done in Standard. Ill have to get the model numbers added later when at the house. See you in a couple of weeks when in Hays.
Always looking for more Derby, Vickers, KanOTex, & Elreco gasoline & oil items!

Hello from Gas Pump Rob,
This is a picture of a factory shortened Tokheim 39 HR (height reduction ) pump. After WW2 the Tokheim pump and tank company decided to shorten some of their existing pump panels in inventory and assemble a more modern looking pump. This is a shortened early version with the cast base, four window advertising glass , and aluminum faces.
Happy pump hunting, Rob

Happy pump hunting, Rob That is interesting. I thought a 39 HR pump was a "hose reel" pump. My Shell 39 I posted is a 1941 39 HR VP. I do not know what the VP stands for but it dose have a hose reel.

Matt, I didn't know that one piece globes were used on 39 shorts. Was this after they were shortened in the late forties?

Heres some I have. they are pretty straight so I'm thinking about maybe putting them back together-would need quite a few parts, Question-Did Tokheim ever make a lower short? Or maybe this one got cut a bit? never saw a 300 with a window like that, but I don't know these all that well...

[quote=MATT ALVAREZ]I was looking at a Tokheim manual yesterday trying to find model info. I did not but found this info. Here is the nozzle used and here is a schematic on the hose safety shut off. These were required in some states. Also here are some lighting schematics. The lighting on the right is the vapor proof that was required on the west coast. Some people call this lighting with the jars explosion proof.
Hey Matt, what was the date of the manual you are referencing? I always thought that the 39's used the 1093 nozzle and I looked through the manual I have that I think is from 1953. Mine shows the 1093 nozzle as the one used on those models. The Milwaukee nozzle in your book was the one I thought was used on the 36 models, maybe others too, but the older ones nonetheless. Just curious as to the dates they might have used different nozzles on the 39's. Maybe Jack can shed some light on the subject, I know he has always said that the nozzles weren't necessarily an item that the pump companies furnished with a new pump but since these Tokheim manuals show these as ones used they must have at least recommended them.....GB

Here's my one and only restored Tok 39a.. restored about 4-5yrs ago... had the original adglasses so the pump ended up in that livery.
Still got two more in suit resto condition awaiting for resto... maybe done in the next decade :-)

I was looking through old pictures. I found this 39 that I bought in 2007. I started restoreing it and a friend wanted it so I sold it to him. He finished it along with the other two he already had.

For starters, Thank you Braden for volunteering to resurrect the POTM thread. I'm a pump guy and will be forever grateful for your selfless actions. I appreciate the time and effort you will be putting into this.
Very informative posts and pic's by everyone elseas well.
I like Tokheim 39's. In my opinion, a perfect first pump. They are plentiful and easy to come by and an easy pump to disassemble and reassemble. Original and reproduction parts are readily available.
When, I first started collecting. I bought, these 19 Tokheim short 39's in one deal from one gentleman. I've restored and sold most of them since. Here's some photo's will dig up some more later today.

Those two pic's of my truck and trailer bring back some neat memories. I started collecting in late 2004, early 2005. That was a pretty good score considering I had only been collecting for less than a year.
Here's a few of those pumps restored will try to dig up some more photo's hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

Wish, I worked this fast now. Got them in Oct, and by mid Dec had one all restored. I never did restore the Mobil, I left it alone. I think, it's cool how the red paint has faded to pink.
