Back about 20 years ago when I was restoring gas pumps, I found a paint store that still had paint books with codes for colors going way back. I asked them if I could look through the old books.
I can't remember what oil companies codes I was looking for, but I do remember, that if the color was blue, there was a code for: 1. Inside of the station 2. Outside of the station 3. The poumps. 4. The pumps going to Ohio or any state you they covered. 5. The tankers For most large oil companies there could be as many as 10 different blues that they used.
If you pick one of these, paint the pump, then put the decals on, generally the blue on the decal will not match the color you used on the pump. This is why we suggest, go to a paint store, take the decals with you, have them match the blue on the decal. If they don't have the equipment to do this, find a paint store that does.

Does anybody have the right paint code for shell yellow? Thank you this is what is says on the quart of shell yellow, .. ... shell yellow: M22 - 3B (quart) YW 2x 29.0000 OG 0x 19.5000 The style decal on it would be 30s. In the 30s and early 40s they used a orange-yellow color. Scott Scott Scott, you were on the right track asking for the correct shell yellow paint code for your project & I provided too you, somewhere along the line you got derailed you have a early cherry lubester that IMO if your going too keep it needs re-painted too the correct color for the time period it should be,30's - if your doing this too turn it continue on- not kicking the horse when its down, trying too lead it too water - examples below of the right color that would have been on this lubester .. my 2ยข .. ...

Here are a couple rustorations I did. They were both brush painted with paint from a hardware store. The A-38 is a oil base paint that was matched to a grease can and the American is a water based paint matched to a sign. They are not the same color but are a orange-yellow. Maybe yours is more orange in person but looks more yellow in the post. I have noticed pictures with out flash lose some of the orange and with flash look better.

Well I was just frying to get a shell color that would match the water decal I have for it. I have 7 of these they are from the 40s. I want to thanks you all the help and paint numbers. I did it to keep. I also did not want to use a new sticker on it. Anyway here it is with the original 40s decal. Also I painted it I am happy with it no runs lol. Thanks again for all the help.

Scott, I have three or four of these small tanks. You're missing a bowl shaped strainer that drops in the large hole. I'll try to find the time to dig mine out and take some photo's. I believe, they held solvent and were for washing hands.

Kerosene Pump. For filling the one gallon transfer bottles to fill your lamps and stoves - before electricity.
You can tell by the large opening for the transfer unit to sit on.
