I recently picked up this Globe gas curb sign. I found a few with the same base as this one and they are all different colors. It was made by West Forge Inc. Chicago. 2 questions 1) Would it hurt value if I painted the base 2) since the gas company didn't make the base would it be ok to paint it any color I wanted?

...it would hurt the value to paint the base...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

I'm with them! Leave it as is.....Patina is what so cool about the sign.....

Its definitely got the "look", painting the base with color would be a bad idea. Depending on where it will be displayed, I might hit the base with matte clear after cleaning (not the sign itself).
