Could someone please give me :

rod size 5/16th ???

rod length from top of head to bottom of threads ?

correct number of rods ?

I'm working on an 177 and it uses 5/16" steel rod. The rod length depends on your cylinder height (plus cork gasket). I think I cut mine at 25-1/2 inches. The bottom gets a cap nut and the extra thread is hidden under the bonnet. I think there were 10 rods.


I'm not familiar with a 172 but there were many differences in the 176, 177 etc.


Wanted: Parts for G&B 177, Wayne 100, Erie 129
Also looking for any info on Southern States pumps

The 176 and 177 used an 24" cylinder or an 26" cylinder. Double check yours before cuttings the rods.

My local metal supply had 20ft. lengths of 5/16" rod for $4.76 each. You can save a lot of money versus the local hardware store. They wanted $6.99 for a 36" piece...
