I apologize for the late post this month. I have been crazy busy. The pump of the month for this month is the National A-38. This pump has great art deco designs and a beautiful top with big curved ad glass. I want to also include the National A, National A-1, National BM-1, National A-38.

-National A: 1936. Without the glass inserts for the top and had a visi gauge.
-National A-1: 1936-1940. Computer dial pump with sight glass. Also came in porcelain.
-National BM-1: 1936. Display case pump with sight glass.
-National A-38: 1938-1949. Computer pump with curved ad-glass panels. Came with white or black faceplates.
-National A-38: 1938. Clockface version.
-National A-38-H: 1947-1949. A-38 pump with 15 foot hose.
-National B-38: 1939. Same as A-38, but the clockface faceplates are different slightly.

This is again credited to Jack Sim's great book.

Alrighty everyone, please post what you have for these sweet pumps! Here is my only A-38. Enjoy!

...the National A I had, had an ad glass top confused...I don't think I've ever seen one that didn't...

...also, there was a GOC version of the A38...here's a picture from the 'net (not mine)...

You didn't list the B1 in your list of pumps (A1 clockface)...probably because it's not in Jack's book but here's mine with original ad glass:

I haven't seen this version posted yet: A-38H

Only made from 1947-1949.

This style featured a 15' hose for a L O N G reach. It allowed you to fill two cars sitting side by side.

Note the hose comes out of the base. There is a 'banana' hose hanger at the top and a curved retainer halfway down the side to hang/retain the hose when not in use.

Original ad glass and globe on this pump.

Later . . .

Jim

I was thinking the same thing Duane.....I think the only ethyl ad glass I was aware of has the jagged art deco font Marathon, not this more block-style font.

My National A-1
The guy that sold me this last year told me it was found half buried top underground, base and bottom of pump sticking out of the ground in a walnut orchard in central California!

Been gone the last couple of weeks so just getting around to posting. I found this porcelain A38 several years ago and just haven't gotten around to stripping the barn paint and seeing what it looks like underneath. Pretty straight example with just some scrapes here and there so I plan to just clean it up and leave it original. It had the one original ad glass in it. I have since found another original glass for the other side. Always loved this series of pumps....GB

Here is an unusual B-1. I never seen another one so not sure if it is factory or custom made.

Here are some nice pumps from Tom Schilling`s collection. First is a nice complete survivor A. This may be an early version. Notice the two piece side panels and the face bezel is different than other A`s that I have seen. Second is a beautiful color combonation on a B-1 with original ad glass. There is a nice A-38 in the same photo. Third is a nice porcelain A-1.

This month got away from me. Pictured are my A-1 and A-38 pumps. I'm getting space constrained, which doesn't stop me from collecting, but it forces me to have to take pictures that can only show a portion of each pump.

Marshall,

This month didn’t get away from you, it’s an old post from last year. Nice pumps though.

Thanks for the reply Steve. I thought I followed this post pretty closely but the last post threw me and I never checked the date. Life is good but hectic.
