Thanks for the welcome and information confirming it's a early sign. Also assuring me pennzoil is indeed collected.

I'd rather have your sign than money. I think the rest of the folks here would agree.

At least you paid a little too much for a real sign. It could be worse. You could be one of the many poor souls on Ebay who end up paying $1,500 for a Chinese fake.

To clean or not to clean? Will cleaning this sign impact value?
I think I like it as is. I like the old look to it, however want to protect it if needed. I'm not sure what the rule is on cleaning tin signs and if cleaning it and some sort of protection is needed. If so what? Have no clue. Like I said this is my first sign. I just don't want to hurt the value by cleaning and in the same token am I hurting future value by not cleaning it and putting something on it to protect it?

You are not hurting it by cleaning off surface dirt etc. just be careful and take your time and go easy with it. It's not porcelain. Cleaning it will help the value as long as you don't peel paint off of it.

Thanks for your input on impact cleaning has to the value of the sign.
Are there suggestions on how to clean? What to use? Should I be posting that question in another part of the forum to get answers to cleaning and protecting

Still trying to navigate this site and understand how to use it better

Lots of info on the forum in past topics. Use the "Google Custom Search" form on the upper and lower right corners of most forum pages. Search for "clean sign" and get the benefit of other's experience.
