Did these two Mobil tops really sell for only $200?

I thought the same thing. Wonder if they were fiberglass?

If the results are correct when you log in, it sure looks like lots of stuff went way under the money.

They sure look like metal. Going to have a very unhappy seller for sure.

My opinion: Mecum auctions are mostly attended by those who can afford a $40,000 gas pump, not by those who are looking for a top for a pump they are restoring. Maybe we should be watching their auctions a little more.

They look like metal to me as well. Heck I would have wanted them either way for that price!

I watched the auction on and off the three days, definitely a buyers auction. Unusual for Mecum but I'll bet there were a lot of unhappy sellers.

In looking at many of the other lots in this auction....it seems like some items went high, while others appeared low. No real trend, which was somewhat surprising. John

Jolly,
Guys like us who are looking for reasonably price items don't look to Mechum for them. These items are consigned to them to sell, possibly the consignor picked the wrong venue. Mechum is not where we go to purchase parts. It slipped by and like many others here on OG I am kicking my self because I waited until Friday night to see what thing went for.

Jolly, one more thing, I still have one more of those Bud 16 oz. bottles in the cooler, too bad we don't live closer to each other, I would split with you.

Jack

Hi, Jack. Just spotted your message. Yes, I hear you about the Mecum auctions not being where guys restoring pumps look for parts. Thus, as you noted, the competitive bidding pressure is minimal on those parts lots. But now, the secret is out!! I wonder how many pump guys will begin following the upcoming Mecum auctions looking for bargains on parts.

On the Bud 16 oz. beer bottle...I would gladly "give" you my half, just for the pleasure of having another interesting conversation with you. You have so much to share (about so many subjects!).

Already thinking about Iowa Gas, 2018. Let's keep in touch about sharing a room again this coming year. You were a good roommate this past August, my friend. Best, John
