I need advice on freight carriers for shipping a sign. It is approximately 4.5' x 3.5' x 1.0" uncrated. It is a single sided tin sign and will weigh approx. 15 lbs. crated.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Dave

Freight Co. named: Forwardaire. Google the name for local terminals.

Wouldn't fed-x or ups move it? I had signs shipped through them taller than 52.

Your just below UPS size cut-off, length + girth (2*width + 2*height) < 165. If it was me I’d quote via freightquote, uship, ups, fedex. Too big for USPS. Freightquote and Uship are brokers so you get many shipping quotes at once. All of these have websites for quick instant quoting, take ten minutes to hit them all. If I was to bet on it, I’d bet ups is cheapest option.

Fed Ex shipped a crate to me. It was a sandwiched plywood box for signs. The outside of the crate was 4' x 4' x 3". If I remember correctly it was only around $160 to ship from KS to MI (and it was heavy, it had 4 signs in it). However, yours is slightly larger than 4 feet, so I don't know if they would take it, but I would definitely check.

And just out of curiosity, how is something that big, in a crate, only 15 pounds? Lol

If it's foot deep, it's to large for Fed-Ex ground. 10" deep would work.

I was just going to sandwich the sign between two pieces of 2 x 2(top and bottom) and wrap in a packing blanket as I was advised. If I have to build a crate it is going to be significantly heavier. Dave

Boy I don't know sounds like your shipping the sign off you ask about a restorer for? You must think a lot of it. I think I would add two pieces of paneling grade plywood being it is tin, may look like a banana with all the hustle of the holidays. Its really a bad time of the year to ship treasures.

Good point Lloyd, but things just happen. It may not get shipped for a month or so anyway. I have some major projects going on(house) and family coming home for the holidays. Just trying to get everything "lined up". Thanks, Dave
