Hello Guys, I started to tear down my Martin Schwartz 80 gas pump for restoration. I am probably asking the obvious. I want to remove the Site glasses to clean them up as well as the impellers. It looks like I have to turn the housing in front of the glass to remove it. It looks like a large nut. I tried to turn it but it did not budge. I did not put to much effort into it as I figured let me ask first. I appreciate any input. Thanks

It unscrews to the left, just like all plumbing. Use a big pipe wrench. If it won't loosen easily, remove the whole manifold and place in a vice. Spray with penetrating oil and try again. Paul www.severngaspumps.com

Thanks Paul, I'll soak it with Penetrating oil and try to loosen it this week.

I have had real good results using penetrating oil and a wooden hammer. I hit the outside of the nut all the way around. I believe the jarring of the nut sometimes works better than loosening the nut (counter clockwise) when it is seized tightly. PS After they are apart the spinners and the site glass turn out amazing if you spray them with oven cleaner for a minute or so and then clean with a tooth brush and \rinse with water. Enjoy the process. Neil

Thanks Guys.
I got them off soaked them with PB blast waited a hour or so and they came right off. One site glass popped right off the other took a while it was fused to the gasket and the gasket was fused to the metal.
I have to clean up the glass and spinners I was wondering how ro clean the spinners. I'll try the oven cleaner. Thanks again.

The oven cleaner worked great. Thanks Neil. I cleaned up the glass and impellers. Spent the morning dropping hose guards off at chrome shop and polishing up face plates, lead signs etc. Next week I am off and plan to take doors, top, side panels etc to my friends body shop to start on prepping and painting them.
Thanks again for the help guys.
