So I see these on ebay quite often. This one is on Proxi. Did they really make this many of these things? Is there any definitive way to tell if the face is authentic?
This one for example, although said to be "PAM" in the listing, does not say Pam along the bottom like some I've seen.
Just wondering what the experts can teach me about these.

Case looks ok.

Regarding glass, even the repops have Pam printed at the bottom, while sometimes originals don't have it stamped.

For me (maybe not for everyone) I won't buy a clock until I hold it in my hands first.

I bought an original clock like that a while back. I opened it up to clean it and was very surprised to see it had a round fluorescent bulb and the face was made of plastic. Weird.

Regarding glass clock faces made by/for PAM and others, check the backside of the face and feel the "texture". Original glass faces should have a somewhat frosted feel much like original gas globe lenses, while the reproduction clock faces will feel smooth as a " baby's behind."

Steve, going through some of my gas books looking for something else I came across this in one my books from 1999. If you look at the fonts there are some subtle differences. Hope this helps.

More companies than Pam made these clocks. Here is a Swihart version.
