Here is a picture of my 15 inch lube sign that I found metal detecting. From what I have learned on this site, it looks like it is from the 30's. Found in Pontotoc,Ms. Any info anyone can give me on this sign would be appreciated.

I have a 15 inch Texaco lubster but not in as good shape and certainly not with such a great story! True antique archeology! You are right...the 15 inch were used on lubsters. The black outlined “T” was an older usage. Also the “Reg.T M” (registered trade mark) was changed to an “r” inside a circle in or about 1963. One dead giveaway for many fakes is the mismatch of the registered trade mark and a sign’s marked date. Congratulations on such a find with your metal detector.

I stand corrected. Randy is right....1959. I am beginning to lose it in my “old age”!

the place i found this was a old hotel site that was built around 1878 and rotted and fell in sometime around 1950. the old man that lived there was a kleptomaniac and was said to take anything he could get his hands on. the guy that owns the property now lets me metal detect and dig whatever i want. i have found lots of coins, tokens and old tools along with all sorts of other stuff. i had found a few porcelain wash pans and a coffee pot the day i found the texaco sign and thought thats what i was fixing to dig when this came to light. one of the other cool things i found at this site was a token from the worlds fair from 1914.
