Bought this 996 as is, for $650. Bones are great, no rot. Everything was there minus the glass & ID Plate (I need one if u have it)

Plans:

- Switch to Blue Sunoco

- Panels leave as is but spray a 2-part clear epoxy (Eastwood's Areospace 2k) to make it pop.

- New Gaskets, Rubber, Glass, Chrome Trims on order.

- Frame & base painted matte or flat black.

Awesome. I would leave her as a Mobil but they are my favorite so that doesn’t really count. Post “after” photos. Very neat project!

Just got the 1st set of parts....QUESTION - How does the ad glass rubber go on? Corners look weird. How does it attach to the panel? Said to order "rb 101" rubber for the ad glass so that's what I got.

It should have been this style rubber for 900 series ad glass. The inside corners of rubber will need to be cut out. The glass corner will be exposed and not in the little track, if that makes sense?

I think the last 966 I owned had raised holes for the CONTAINS LEAD sign. If yours has the factory stamped raised holes, your longer CONTAINS LEAD sign is too long to use the factory stamped holes.

Brady is right, I've had probably 50 or more of these 900 series Gilbarco pumps over the years. I've never seen one with the long lead signs. Those are for older pumps. You need the smaller plates.

Where else are you going to have so much fun??? I still can't get that style rubber in a pump. Lucky for me I have a great friend that lives a half mile from me that is good at it.

Made the only progress I could until more parts show up next week...

- Frame was scrubbed down w/ Krud Kutter Rust Remover & sprayed w/ Undercoating to seal her up.

- Sandblasted Sight Glass pieces & Nozzle Holder thinger. Sent the Sight glass through the dishwasher.

Finished wet sanding & cleaning w/ Simple Green. They came out nice, lots of overspray & rust came off.... Ready for Blue paint around the window (where the red is) tomorrow.

What goes in the hole in the 2nd pic? I need to get whatever it is...

Rubber grommet for light switch. The only place I see that has them is Past Gas in FL.

Clear coated all panels w/ 2 part epoxy from Eastwood. Installed new sight glass rubber & chrome trims. Found a Serial # plate thanks to Tom Buckles.

Still waiting on the 2 door rubbers & Lead signs. Waiting to do the Ad & window glass last...

I see the face plate is for the double dispenser model. You might like the look of the face plate for the single dispenser a bit better. They have a curved edge on both sides and bottom to make a nice clean look. Great looking pump!

Nice pump! I’m not an experienced collector but I have a Gilbarco that I think is a 996 and its ad glass opening is slightly larger than then the meter opening. Yours appears to be the same sized openings...perhaps a 906 I need a panel but I’m confused between a 906 and 996. How were you able to identify your pump as a 996?

The 996 has horizontal molding trim (some have one piece and some have two on each door) and the 906 has a "V" trim around the sight glass. There are other differences but that is the easiest way to tell them apart.
