A couple of days ago some friends were at my shop and we had a discussion on this Peerless lens. Some thought it was hand painted and others thought it was just not fired. It does appear that Peerless was repainted on it's outline. We talked about it so much I now have no freaking idea. The lens are 16.5". I need some fresh eyes and opinions. Thanks for any input.

...that's what it is...

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

You can't just change a lens to personalize it. The image is (almost always) fired onto - and into - the glass substrate. You would need to sandblast only the area you planned on repainting in order for it to work.
Much, much easier to just paint an entire lens.

Thanks T-Way, I’ll have to check to see if it’s fired. There seems to be a lot of color loss. I didn’t think someone could paint Ash Grove in there.

Whatever the case, its obviously an old lens worth preserving and appreciating in its state. maybe altered or whatever but probly the only one in existance and a great piece. just enjoy it and dont sweat the small things.

I’m with you Les, I respect it for what it is. I never really cared about being fired or painted but after all the conversation was curious and confused. I’m on track to get a more correct body for it.

Yes an old body with lots of patina would do it justice
