Any evidence exposed conduit used for lights on visible pumps such as Fry, Rapidayton originally painted when manufactured?
Or
When manufactured and put into service was the exposed metal conduit zinc or cadmium plated and no paint?

If you look at the original price paid for visible gas pumps, you'll see a very inexpensive figure. Given that fact, the conduit was probably painted as it was the cheapest way to manufacture? Paul www.severngaspumps.com
