You'll hear anything from rattle cans to single stage enamels, acrylic enamels, urethanes, basecoat/clearcoat to powder coating.

I think it just depends on personal preference, ability to spray, and how much money you want to spend.

Pat.

Looking for early Pure Oil Company items(Energee,Detonox,Puritan)as well as any Woco Pep items.

Looking for graphic quart cans for my collection.

Pat hit the nail on the head. Everyone will have a different way. It does have a lot to do with your experience. If your experience is low I would recomend something like acrylic enamel with hardner. This is cheaper than a urethane and if you run it you can still sand it and buff it. Great paint jobs are made with sanding blocks and sand paper you have to get the pannels straight first

I had a shell Wayne 100 that was brush painted at the station, it looked pretty good!!

It depends where the pump will be, sometimes a 200.00 pump does not look 400.00 better after you paint it!!

I am finding my mistakes as I go along and figured I better find out ahead of time about paint. I bought a Tokheim 39 want to make it into a Sinclair. It was local so I jumped before I thought it out much. One door is porcelain and the other metal. I questioned the ad glass missing off the metal one and was told either with or without was ok. Well when I looked up Tokheim AP it should have the ad glass and the porcelain door was wrong too. So now I have a pump with the wrong doors and dont know if they were originally hinged or hookon. It doesn't seem like all the parts are there. I had it sandblasted and took it to a bodyshop for an estimate. I got an estimate for approximately $600. at $45.00 an hour. He couldn't help me with any answers to how the doors are attached so I brought it back home. He was going to use Urethane and now I am going to have friend look at it and needed to know what type of paint is best. He is not professional but has painted cars before. Guess I should have done my homework. The bodyshop estimate took a week and a half and I see no primer means here comes the rust again!
