Need some help with this pump.
It is 511D
As can be seen in my other post I am starting tear down and clean up , I have a few questions.
From looking at as many posts as I can find it looks as though should not have the filters mounted on the out side as it has fuel spinners.
Which contains lead sign should it have? anti knock or tetraethyl?
Should the fuel spinners be painted?
Were all the early pumps 8 price ,mine is a 5 changed to a 4 with aluminum tape covering.
Should I leave it a 5 or change it to a 8 ? Leaning to a 5 as the plate is original.
This will be my center piece pump so I want to get it as right as possible.
Thank for any help .
Dave

While there hasn't been a lot of response to my posts, I hope as the answers start to come it will help someone else who may want to do one of these.
So I thought I might try looking up old ads from back in the day to help with some details.
It looks very early on they went with 8 price readers, then decided that wasn't for every station and changed to 6 reader. But mine has a 5 reader panel ,so it looks as though a station could get , for the most part a choice, or change to multiple arraignments.
While not ;locked in stone as fact it makes sense.

I also found it interesting that some show wording under each spinner. And some don't.

Hi Dave, just have to be a little patient with things like this. A lot on here read and see things but everyone seems to have their own slice of the petroliana pie so sometimes it takes awhile for a knowledgable person with your particular tastes to see this and come forward with helpful info.

I'm just saying don't get discouraged. You're most likely helping others out by what you're doing as well! wink

Sorry you aren't getting more responses to your posts Dave....I've been impressed with the amount of research you're putting into your project and that alone is commendable!
And that's right, once it's posted on here the research is available to anyone researching to topic.

No problem guys, I enjoy digging into this stuff. I am in the process of gathering all the chrome parts that need redone and then moving onto the lower assemblies.
Painted side panels will go fast as there is very little damage
Planning on getting all the panels for the pump and the Alemite oil dispenser ready to paint at the same time.

I am not a blend pump expert but here are some pictures from a Sunoco book.
Also as a teenager in 1958 I remember the blend pump at a local Sunoco station had 8 spots with the 250 left blank & the 260 was blocked as the pictured pump.
Depending on the marketing area not all grades were available.
The "Priced Below Regular" are signs for the introduction of the 190.

Very ,very helpful. I have yet to see a five price reader like mine.
Thank you. I need to find a copy of that book.

Skelly used them also, they had 5 grades. I have a Bennett blender that appears to use the same computer, with the capability of nine grades and prices.
