I have been collecting old Automobiles for some time, and I recently came across a old hand crank pump. The pump was in a garage built in 1915. The house and garage were built by a doctor. He had a early motorcar, and he installed a fuel storage tank under the garage, with a pump in the garage. My parents purchased this home in the 1960's from the doctors family. Little is known about the pump. We have just recently removed the tank, and the pump due to environmental issues. I am looking for info on the old pump.

The pump appears to be dated back to 1915, hwoever I am unable to confirm anything on this pump. The pump has a small see thru window on the top, that is about 5 inches in diameter. It appears that you could see the flow of gas when you cranked the pump. The crank handle is the only part that identifys the pump. On the casting, is "MARVEL PUMP"

Any info on Marvel pumps, or if I can be directed where to get info, I would appreicate it. I also have picture if anyone is interested in seeing it.

The only thing that I have found so far, that may help is that the Guarantee Liquid Measure Company purchased Marvel Pump Company of Cleveland, OH. in 1927.

The padlock on the pump is a Sargent, and I have no key. I know a retired locksmith that is going to attempt picking the lock, so it can be saved. The hose on the pump is in great shape. The pump has been indoors all this time until 2 weeks ago, bolted to the floor of the old garage.

When I wrote the Gas Pump Identification book, I didn't even include the Marvel Company, even though I knew they were in business during the 1920s, and sold out to Fry in the late 20s. The reason being is that they made mostly lubrication equipment, and that was not one of my top proprities.
It appears that you have come up with a gas pump that they made, possibly as early as 1915.
I will look through my Marvel literature ans see if I can find anything on this pump.

Several have inquired as if the Marvel Pump is For Sale. After a few weeks, I have decided to sell the pump. The Pump was just listed on Ebay and for those that are interested, just type in "1915 Marvel Pump" in the Ebay search box.

Thanks to those of you that have helped to identify this pump.

I HOPE you get your opening bid of $999.00. BUT, even through it might be RARE in this condition, it IS NOT that collectable.
GOOD LUCK
