I’m getting ready to start my first gas pump restoration. The pump I have is a Gilbarco model 96 the serial number is 830407. I’m looking to find some advice as to whether this pump is worth restoring. The faceplates are gone and glass and the rubber trim needs replacing. It has some rust issues it has the pump and motor and all if the parts inside the pump.Im thinking the biggest thing will be getting the metal work done. Any advice will be appreciated I’m curious as to how old this pump is. The pump came from central Indiana and the original colors are red and white. I have done car restorations but never a gas pump, thank you for your time.

You appear to have a G&B 96B made around 1940 according to Jack Sim's Gas Pump Bible. The pump looks fairly solid with these models experiencing sever rust issues around the top plate, however yours looks solid. Based on its condition, the pump is a good candidate for restoration and worth the effort, particularly if your doing the work yourself. Missing parts are readily available through the parts suppliers identified on this site. The current trend is to leave the guts inside but I would remove them to save weight and because you have a relatively common pump. There is a lot of knowledge on this site so feel free to ask questions.
