Hi, question regarding Sinclair in Mexico

From what I know Sinclair was sold in Mexico by the Pierce Oil Company SA in the 30s.

Has anyone seen this sign before? Also a picture of the oil company building

Thanks

Henry

Even the dimensions seem to match. The sign measures 10 feet x 1 foot. If you use the short man on the left as a gauge, the sign is a somewhat less than twice as long as the man is tall...so I'm happy I found the picture.

The round Sinclair rooster signs show up from time to time. There is also a DSP rooster keyhole sign. I have seen a recent picture of the horizontal Opaline sign as shown in the picture above and there is a reproduction rooster globe also as shown above. I think I have seen a picture of one can from Mexico and a wood shipping crate from there.

I have a wood shipping crate or box from El Aguila in Mexico, and have seen cans from El Aguila, but none from Sinclair in Mexico. I also have a globe from Gasolina Huasteca (Huasteca Petroleum Company, a subsidiary from Standard Oil).

BTW, I found this VERY interesting video showing Mexican government workers during the 1938 oil expropriation posting government propaganda signs over the Sinclair (and other companies) signs. Really great image quality

Mr Davis, I think I have an answer to your question: here are a few pics of some surviving Mexican Sinclair Oil cans and a nice Painted Tin Sinclair sign. Enjoy and Happy Holidays!

That globe is way cool. Wayne Henderson can correct me but I believe Mexico nationalized all petro products in the late 1930s. That's when Sinclair left. I have one globe from either Mexico/Cuba. A Sinclair H-C on glass that says, "Sinclair Gasolina" . Looking for any quart cans and other Sinclair globes from there like the "Sinclair Productos" with the Rooster. Please let me know if anyone finds one...

Thanks, yes Mexico nationalized all petroleum related products/services in 1938, so all foreign and local companies exited the market (or were kicked out). The most prominent ones were El Aguila, Huasteca and Sinclair.

That Sinclair globe is fantastic. I will look for old pictures of Sinclair petrol stations to see if I can find out if the globe is Mexican

If you ever want to sell it, keep me in mind!
