As per thread title, I now own TWO Gilbarco (also made by Wayne) T1 MOBIL round s/steel pumps, with BOTH pumps missing their T-O-P-S - these were always fairly BRITTLE after sun damage, and are rarely found intact....

My two pumps are both missing their tops, and - seemingly - no reproduction parts (yet) exist...

I have reached out to collectors, both in the States (incl. G.P.R.), as well as collectors in Australia, and there is a good demand for these T1 tops, if they can be reproduced, accurately...

Here in South Africa, the 'cheese' top on the T1 pumps AND the T1 oil-can display cabinets, was allegedly MOLDED locally, so I am on a quest with ENGEN (and before that, MOBIL...) to track down the company that did the molding, IN CASE such a mold still exists...

QUESTION: has anyone yet CONSIDERED trying to reproduce the tops, yet?
Has anyone the time to try and TRACK DOWN an old mold, that could be re-used to mold these tops?

Cheers, Chris, Cape Town.

Here showing my other basket-case T1 pump, that needs LOTS of work...am happy it has the pump hose cable-retraction mech included - nice!

as well as a 1970's picture taken downtown Cape Town, showing the T1 pump alongside the T1 oil can display cabinet...LOVE that oil cabinet, now to find one...!

Cheers
Chris

Have got a quotation to reproduce (mold) 20x Gilbarco T1 (Mobil Round) petrol pump TOPS.

Reason for 20 units is to offset cost of the mold.

I have interest from the USA (possibly Gas Pump Rob, co-incidentally) and I need 5+ for myself and 3 other collectors here in South Africa.

Gauging if any interest in getting these made up - identical in every way to the original, approx. $180-$200 USD per top;
...will be made by a specialist fabrication company https://spex.co.za/ with the technology to make the tops, and using EVONIK 65 Resist material.

Picture of the Gilbarco T! 'Mobil Round' top as per this site:

Update on the project to re-manufacture the GILBARCO T1 light box(s):

Work continues, getting another quote from a second source for the mold (though the 1st quote SEEMED fair...), and having a contractor with a LARGE FORMAT 3D printer - a clever device that cures a gel base with UV light as it lays it down - to check if he can make a durable MOLD for it, using 3D printing techniques, to see what is possible (from a MOLD perspective, not final product).

I have supplied them an un-molested 'keeper ring', to ensure that when the product is made, it is to the exact fit / tolerance of the keeper ring (what else could I call it - ideas?!)

Then, JUST after briefing a plastics company, a chap holding out on me for past 15+ months rang me, to come and fetch THREE Gilbarco T1's, ALL THREE with the hat intact, though they likely need replacing, anyway!

All three pumps are DOUBLE pumps; we have not yet moved them, but estimating some of the heaviest pumps I will ever handle! They are double-digital, I dont usually dabble in digital, but these are something special.

SO I will shortly have a undamaged LIGHT COVER sample, to get working on.

More in 3 or 4 weeks.

@Craig Osbeck

I am buying 3 pumps, and do not THINK I will part them out, but will let you know if any surplus skins available.

S.A. is a long way away, but then - why will no one SHIP you the lower skins, (USA-based) if they have them? the hassle of packaging such a large, radiused item?
Curious!

Have PM’d you on the 2 items I do / will do for the Mobil round pumps: the clear Acrylic ‘glass’ in upper doors, and the yet-to-be manufactured white, translucent top, the ‘cheese-top’!

Chat soon!
