Helo to all, I was wondering if I somebody can assist me with their knowledge of dating this sign, I'd greatly appreciate any feedback. I was always under the assumption that they started producing the vertical Good Rich sign, such as mine pictured, with the tires / batteries added to the bottom around the late 20's or early 30's ... does that sound about correct?
I was thinking maybe early - mid 30's.... I haven't seen any pictures of this particular sign when looking at gas stations photos from the 20's... I'm always scrolling through the "great old pics" section of our forum... usually the cars are in the 30's or 40's at least in the few photos I've seen.
Yep, "Violent Is The Word For Curly", a 1938 classic! I love looking at everything around the service station very closely, since there's a lot of Mobil items. Super Service!! Darin
Darin Sheffer Always looking for Mobil and Marathon items I don't already have!
That was a funny episode for sure, just watched it.... "Super Service" I appreciate u sending that along, that gas station certainly had allot of nice old signage & pumps etc to look at for sure, good eye!! I agree with you though, it's always interesting to pause a video or zoom in on those old gas station pics and see what's posted in the windows or hanging off a post. Every now & then you see things u hadn't before too. I guess in the future I'll just keep an eye out for my sign in photos or whatever the viewing content is & try to put a date to that era....
No photos of the backs of these signs included in the eBay auction page. And, I can't imagine why a guy would sell TWO identical signs in ONE auction. Certainly not the way I would go. John
Seller was from Bonanza, OR...whole things sounds more like bananas to me!! both look like they barely had the Cal Enamel Co. stamped in on the bottom.. Perhaps it was made in India
