Hi All,

Am new to the forum and just picked up my first gas pump - a G&B T176 Visible.

The plan is to restore it and try and restore it in its original colors / branding. The person I purchased it from said they think it was originally a Red Crown pump - it is near impossible to tell from the front decal but apparently the rear decal is a bit easier to read. I still have to get it back to the workshop and get some better photos to determine but looking at both the red and the white versions of the Red Crown pumps neither of them had the band at the bottom.

The pump has been sitting in a shed in CO for the last 40 years and is likely originally from CO but impossible to tell. If it is originally from CO then my understanding that Standard / Red Crown is a likely candidate as is Texaco and Conoco but it could also have been a plethora of other smaller gas outlets and also from anywhere else in the country.

The pump is complete internally, handle, filler nozzle (patent date 1926), blue glass etc but is missing a globe and a bottom door which are all easily fixable.

Does anyone have any idea what brand it would have been looking at the very minimal visual information available at present?

Thanks,

Ben

Just got it to the workshop and managed to do so without breaking the glass which looks to be in mint condition without any cracks, chips or bullet holes.

I got a couple of extra photos, the decal on the other side has a little more detail to it but still not legible but hoping somwthing can maybe pick something out of it combined with the color scheme which appears to be white with a stripe at the base and on the 2 glass rings.

If anyone has any idea what brand this might have been i would love to hear.

Thanks RetroPetro, that sounds right. I could make out the Gasoline down the bottom and the person I got it from was trying to tell me the letters at the top were R E but I kept looking at it thinking that didnt look right. D E for the first 2 letters looks right and the white and blue colors seem to line up as well.

What I am believing is the “E” that you are seeing is too far away from the 12 o’clock position(where the “R” would be). Could be optical confusion too!

That’s a tough one. With the positioning of the letters, I don’t think it’s Derby or Red Crown. Either some small independent company or one we are not thinking of.

I did a quick overlay with the Red Crown Ethyl and am starting to think that the original claim of it being a Red Crown branded pump may be correct as a lot of the letters seem to line up in which case I am guessing the paint scheme would have been majority white with the blue base and rings with possibly some red highlights (the tube for the light power cables looks to have been red) does anyone have any photos of Red Crown pumps in a similar paint scheme?

I believe this to be a Red Crown pump.
The picture was taken in 1930.
