Any ideas on what pump this part goes on? There is a small pulley held in by the brass pin. Looks like it mounts to a 1 5/8" pipe. Thanks, Bob

OK, didn't get much feedback on this part. I think we can all agree on it being the "art deco" style. Late 1920's thru the 1930's. One ideal I did get was "flying "A"? I think it has something to do with keeping the hose off the ground, but NOT sure? Bob

What makes you believe it goes on a gas pump, just curious?

If it was a pump part, it wouldn’t be specific to a gas brand. But I don’t believe to even belongs to a pump; certainly not to one I’ve ever seen.

This is just a guess. Could it be a flagpole topper with the pulley holding the rope to raise a flag? More art-deco styled than the plain one as pictured here.

OK, I originally thought flag pole topper too. However the pulleys (one is missing) don't line up. Looks like a counter weight was down the pole and I think the oval hole had a purpose? Mystery continues...

OK, this is a 500+ view update. Still NOT sure exactly what it is or what it went to. A few of additional observations are: 1 The "wing" portion has wear marks from being used as a handle. Your hand grips it very nice. You can actually see the smoothness in the pic. 2 The large "C" notch is just over 1 1/2", a pump hose would nest into that opening rather well. 3 The part is definitely engineered and manufactured, very unlikely to be a one off. 4 The part is also aluminum/non spark type material as gas nozzles. Assuming the oval hole was to lock a gas nozzle to at night and when station was closed it could be to an era before the gas pumps had the gas nozzle holders built in. Open to any and all ideas or suggestions. For sure a cool piece of metal that survived the scrap man. The mystery continues...

Hi, Bob. You never did answer Ohio Oil's question of: "What makes you think it's a gas pump part?". That would be interesting (and helpful) to know. Can you fill us in? Regards, John

OK, kind of thought I did... It feels like gas pump nozzle material, it is kind of "decorative", and it looks like a gas pump size hose would "nest' into the shape on the lower wing side. I am open to any ideas, suggestions or hints.

I’ve been wrong before, but that doesn’t look like any gas pump part I’ve ever seen.
How was it found? In a box of parts? by itself? On a bench with gas pump parts? did the owner collect pumps?? Or was it found on a farm with no gas pumps in sight?
I’d be willing to bet a few dollars it doesn’t go on a pump.
Ask Tom Buckles.

Yes, Bob, I would also say "that is it". Darn, and not even from a marine gas pump! Well, at least we can all rest easier now. My thanks to Fueluser, too. John
