Shot at 2007-08-09

2 Conoco signs and 2 poles. The green sign is a pump plate and the red & white is smaller......anyone know WHY???

Dick is right, the one in your picture is from a oil can rack.

But they also made pump plates just like this . The only difference is the oil can rack signs have sharp pointed corners on the shoulders and the pump plates had rounded shoulders.. Same size,, I think these came before the Green Conoco pump plate which was for regular gas and the Red Royal plate that was ethyl.

I believe the rounded corner signs went on the oil racks. I have had an original unrestored rack and the rounded corner signs were riveted to the top. The top of the rack has rounded corners that match the shape of the sign.

wfort39663, I am really not sure, I have two original racks myself and one has the orignial rivets still in place and it has the sharp corners and the other rack has small screws in place and has the rounded ones. The pictures of the pump plates I posted, I removed off of a M&S 80 Conoco pump.

OK a few more ! This is my 6' station sign I have the post and base, it came from Leadville, Colorado. Sometime soon it will be up in front of my shop.
