Here's the situation; I pick up a pump and gut it, leave it outside until the smell goes away (anywhere from 1 day - 3 weeks) and I then store it inside my shop. The reason I'm not real concerned about the time it spends outside is because it's been outside it's entire life. What's a few more days or weeks, the average pump spends years outside braving the elements. Here's where I need some advice, I notice that probably 1 out of 3 pumps starts rapidly rusting the short time I keep them outside. What do you recommend that I spray or brush on the entire pump to halt the rusting. Obviously this "magic compund" cannot stink nor hinder me when I get around to restoring it. Several friends told me to take burnt (used) motor oil in a garden sprayer and spray it. I'm not crazy about this, burnt motor oil is a pain in the rear. In a month or two this situation will be a non-issue because I am building a barn that the pump can stay in starting the moment I bring it home. THANKS for any ideas!! Sincerely, Neal Dunn gpf
