COOL GRAPHICS ON THOSE UNUSUAL SMALL OIL COMPANY MAPS. LOOKS LIKE THE BLUE COLOR ON JOHNSON'S CORNERS IS SLIGHTLY LOW MISSING THE CENTER OF THE WHITE AREA UPTOP AND HITTING THE ROOFLINE OF THE BUILDING BELOW.

For those of you that don't know what DOC is talking about. These type of maps were quite often printed up ahead of time in huge batches and then re-rpinted with the dealer's name and information later. That's what happened here, the re-print was not centered on the face of the map so the lettering didn't match the openings left for it. You can tell since the 'base' art blue printing is in the correct relationship to the red (registered). Later . . . Jim ------------------ www.T-waysGraphics.com

Ron- Thanks for posting the photos of the maps, both rare and very cool. Do you know the story of the boxes of fargo handy oilers that were found a few years ago? Also did fargo have an oil can with that same guy on it?
Lastly did wilcox and oriental merge together?

Scott, yes I remember the small 1 ounce Fargo handy oilers being found in the Denver area..I have 1. Harder to find is the 3 ounce Fargo oiler in the same design. I have posted a small pic of the Fargo Quart can..the little "man figure" on the front of the map & handy oilers is on the back of the quart. Ron.

Hey Thunder! What's with the Thunder II thing? Did someone copyright "Thunder"? Thanks for another great post speedway. I'd love to come see your stuff sometime. But don't count on me getting there anytime soon. Just ask Thunder (or Thunder II). Scott...I've never heard of any merger between Wilcox and Oriental but I do think Wilcox had a big presence in Colorado. As for the Johnson's Corner map that must have been before they started selling Frontier because after that they sold Husky and that would have been into the 1970's. I've been trying to do some research on local gas stations when time allows but if you've ever done research you know it can be time consuming. When I find out when Johnson's changed brands for sure I'll let you guys know. chris

Chris..the Johnsons map is from 1941. According to a few Oriental maps they had Oriental refineries in Denver & Alamosa. In the 1950's they list stations in Canon City..Colorado Springs..Craig..Denver..Golden..& Pueblo. I know the 2 Canon City stations lasted untill the 1960's. I'll post an Oriental map. Ron

Hey Chris... I FINALLY got DSL service out here. After that I couldnt log on to oldgas. It always came back to me as "Incorrect password" When I clicked on the "Forgot your password" button, it came back as "No registered member at that address". So I re-registered, THAT came back as "User name already in use" Hence the name Thunder II.... Besides I already own a company, a farm, and a road with the name Thunder.... Boy, talk about arrogant... LOL
