Well Oldgassers, it’s a New Year and that means it’s time for a new showcase. This one came about as a result of several of us sharing our travel pictures (and I don’t mean family vacations).

Our new showcase is call F.A.T.W.--Found Along the Way and I call it “ A Petroholics Journey on the Road to Discovery“.

What we want to see in this showcase is the things that you discover in your travels and searches for additions to your collection.

Could be things you saw at an antique mall, swap meet or flea market that you think we would like to see.

Could be an old gas station that is abandoned or converted to a new innovative use.

Could be farm fresh pumps in the wild.

Could be “Roadside Kitsch”, like clam shell gas stations or giant teapots or crazy stuff along the road that you think we would enjoy (preferably petro related).

We’ll see how this one develops and then add or amend to what you can post, but for now make sure you have that digital camera next to you in the car and take some pictures. If you need help re-sizing or posting then send them to me and I will post them for you. thepoormansmuseum@verizon.net

Why did they pick the Poor Man to host this new showcase? Because I begged them and promised that we would maintain the standards of this “family friendly” site.

Here’s an example of a place that I “Found Along the Way”.

This place is actually a used car dealership in San Luis Obispo, California called McCarthy Wholesale. Obviously the owner is a bit of a Petro nut and a car guy too. Best thing about this place is that you can stop in any time and you don’t even have to buy a car. Looks like they are adding to the collection so it’s probably worth several stops if you’re traveling up and down the California coast on occasion.

I THINK THAT WAS IN 2001.

I don't know how to set it up but there is a great cafe up here near us in Post Falls Idaho called the Hot Rod Cafe. They have some great stuff including a 6 foot original Washington chief sign and also a 6 foot Montana chief if I remember right. You can go look at there stuff at www.hotrodcafe.com Go to the cafe tour and look at the pictures. enjoy Don & Lynn

Here's another place I recently found along the way. I posted some photos before bu this place is worth visiting if you are in the Monterey/Salinas area along the coast of California (Monterey Peninsula is about 30 miles west of Highway 101 from Salinas).

It's called the "Baja Cantina, Grill and Filling Station" and the owner is a Petro and racing fan. (7166 Carmel Valley Rd., Carmel, CA).

There's alot to see inside and you can have lunch or dinner while you look around!
