Appreciate if someone could give a little background on these brands. I'm confused by all the names that seem to be connected to one company...Flying A, Tydol, Veedol, Tide Water, Associated and so forth. Thanks

Dennis,
You can find some info in a book "J. Paul Getty, The Richest American" by Ralph Hewins.

Tide Water started as a pipeline company.
Associated was an oil company.
Tidewater Associated Oil Company was formed to take over Tide Water and Associated.
In 1956 the name was changed to Tidewater Oil Company.
Good luck,
Ed
