Because Most, but not all visibles have a tapered body, new sheetmetal would have to be made to shorten the body. Would be easier to find a broken 10gal. cylinder & have it cut to make a 5gal. Then cut the upper pipes & rods.

That is why I like the Fry W/O the base...you are not hurting the pump and when the customer has a place for it later he can add the base..Mark

A FRY WITHOUT a base should be mounted to some kind of base [plywood] or mounted to floor, TOP HEAVY. 5gal won't be as bad as a 10gal, just safer that way.

Most restorers will use New sheetmetal instead of beating on originals. So replaceing with custom shouldn't be that big of a deal [except on a G&B with the beading].
