I wish I had a digital camera. I have the following on the side of my garage - all of them light up - Mobil letters, Texaco letters, Gulf, Exxon, Shell, Sinclair, Phillips 66, Chevron, Citgo, Texaco star, Sunoco, and a 6' 76 hanging on an old Esso pole. Looks great at night ! Brady

I KNOW THIS IS OFF TOPIC SOMEWHAT BUT WANTED TO SHARE THEM. THE FIRST SIGN IS FROM THE 90'S AND I BOUGHT IT FROM AN ADAMSTOWN, PA. ANTIQUE DEALER. ONE SIDE WAS ROUGH ON THIS 2-SIDED FLANGE TYPE SIGN.
WHEN I GOT IT HOME I FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS FROM EUROPE AND REQUIRED A 220-230V CURRENT. SO AFTER SOME THOUGHT, I FOUND AND BOUGHT A STEP-UP TRANSFORMER AND SOME FLUORESCENT STARTERS AND NEW BULBS BY OSRAM IN GERMANY THRU MY BROTHER. I ENDED UP REPLACING THE ONE ROUGH SIDE WITH A WHITE (INSIDE) PANEL, MAKING IT A ONE SIDED
LIGHT...IT'S A BEAUTY IN PERSON!

THIS NEXT ONE WAS ALSO A DOUBLE SIDED GEM THAT HUNG OVER THE RUSTY ANCHOR NEAR BAR-HARBOR MAINE. I BOUGHT THE SIGN FOR $100. I REMOVED ONE PANEL, SOLD IT TO A FRIEND FOR $50 AND PERSONALIZED IT FOR HIM TOO. REPLACED THE MISSING PANEL WITH A WHITE (INSIDE) PAINTED PANEL AND THEN PERSONALIZED IT FOR MYSELF. SOMETIMES THIS ONE NEEDS A KICK TO GET GOING!

HOW REFRESHING!

GREAT THREAD, SCOTT....I GOTS MORE!

Here are some things I found at the Ventura Flea Market on Sunday the 19th. The Michelin Men have 220 lights inside for use in Europe. They also came with a man sitting on a tire with a steering wheel. You can see him on the COTW post below some of my backlit signs. This is my first attempt at photo posting so if it doesn't work bear with me.

Now that I put the wrong topic in the wrong place I'g going to try and post some photos of my backlit signs here. Hopefully it will really happen. Lots of backlit clocks too.

Can anyone tell me about this guy? I bought him with the light up Michelin Men and don't know if he's a Michelin guy or some other tire guy.

This is only my second attempt at photo posting so I hope that you see some backlit signs and not a bunch of gobblety gook.

Okay now that I'm figuring out this photo posting I realize that it's a "size" thing so here are some close ups of my personal favorites (as opposed to those overall shots where you can't see anything).

I get a kick out of this Big Kick light up battery.

Sorry for all of the posting but I'm just so darned excitied that I figured out this photo thing.

Some big - out of the ordinary plastic backlit pole signs I've picked up locally.

Holiday...was in front of an old Holiday -Erickson station since the late 60's or early 70's. About 10' long. Bulges out and has embossed lettering.

Kickapoo was a pioneer self serve in Wisconsin. All signs were supposed to be destroyed but this one survived and a deceased collector I used to know paid about $500 to obtain it 10+ years ago! I bought it at the estate auction for $75 with the pole about 8 years ago. About 8' long.

1970's? Phillips 66 embossed plastic sign from a local station. About 6' tall.

Here is what I think is one of the coolest signs I have. It is out of a station that was located in downtown San Francisco,CA. It is not the normal leaded glass, the lead is more of a poured babbit. I have a picture of it in the actual gas station in 1939.

OF ALL MY COKE BUTTON SIGNS THIS HUGE PLASTIC "SIGN OF GOOD TASTE"
BUTTON IS 5'6" TALL! HANGING IN MY LIVING ROOM, I CREATED A SPARKLE
EFFECT BY MAKING A FIXTURE HOLDING A LINE OF 25 XMAS LIGHT SOCKETS EACH USING A 9W FLICKER BULB. IT'S ON A TIMER, SO IT COMES ON BETWEEN 7 AND 11PM EVERY NIGHT. YOU CAN PHYSICALLY SEE IT 4 HOUSES UP THE BLOCK! I ALSO ADDED A RED ROPE LIGHT AROUND THE OUTSIDE BORDER FOR ENHANCEMENT PURPOSES!

Lit my Pegasus with rope lights. Gave it kind of a different effect like that coke button.

I really wanted to join in on the games here, but this is the only sign I have unpacked to photograph. I guess it could be considered a "backlit" sign, although it's actually lit by a neon tube around the edge of the glass. The letters "Lubrication" are etched into the back of the glass.
