This is the Ottawa pump I just found that came from the Silver Lake, Kansas area and as far as I can tell it is 100% un-messed up by wana-be-gas-pump-fix-it-uppers. All the parts are there, working and in original condition. This is a very nice "and heavy" pump with great etched glass with no cracks or chips. The farmer even brought it to the house for me. QUESTION: So - how do you get that original cyl. off with out breaking it? This cyl is nice and tight, and does not want to move at all. There has to be a way! Travis E. Oops - darn browser cache - I posted under Tara's name...
Travis,
There's no way I'd touch that pump. Leave it just like it is. You don't want to risk breaking the cyl, and there's something to be said for a good original pump that doesn't look like a show car.

A good friend of mine cracked his original cylinder trying to remove it to paint his pump. They were not ment to come off once sealed so it will not be easy to get it off. It is 80 year old glass so be easy.

Travis, that is a great looking pump, just as it is.I also thought that there had to be a way to remove a cylinder without breaking it. I sucessfully removed two of them, and reinstalled them back in the pumps. However I also have two sitting in my shed on a shelf, that broke while I was trying to get them out. I keep them where I can look at them just to remind me that that old glass seems to have a mind of its own. One of them actually broke after I had removed the top off a Wayne 615, and I felt so good about that I went to get a beer and take a break, I heard a "crack" turned around and the glass was broken, in a complete circle, about an inch from the bottom. I agree that there must be a way to get them out, or they would not be showing up on ebay, for $300 to $500 each. Good luck, Norm Huff.

A little wash job, some good car wax and your done. Looks too good to mess with and I doubt it would make it worth any more. Like the boys said old glass has a mind of its own.

Muriatic (Hydrochloric) Acid took the old stuff off the glass and around the castings in about 30 mins. Did not hurt the glass and it was free in no time.

Yea, I have a vending route in Ottawa so I know where it is.
I really do want one of these hit-n-miss engines and have for a very long time. I thought it would be cool to have it sitting next to my ford model t at car shows, or even on the antique T trailer I am going to make and tow with the car.
