I thought while we were waiting for an overseer of the signs to step up I would throw something out there to keep us from falling to sleep. So , No Smoking of any kind , any company , and most of us have one or two , these signs were started mostly by town and city ordinances because of fires that was started at the local fueling stations , some even have the ordinance numbers on them , they were known tobe around as far back as the late 20ties , some companys had generic ones, the more larger companys had there names on them or logos , these signs were also on trucks , loading docks at depots or fueling stations , so lets see what you got ,????? heres mine show me yours , [This message has been edited by Dwaine Buck (edited 02-06-2003).] [This message has been edited by Dwaine Buck (edited 02-06-2003).]

Here's a no smoking sign that was on ebay awhile back. I couldn't afford it, but I did steal the image. ------------------ Don "oltoydoc" Sherwood

I seen that Don , Jim Kinker got one just like it at Cambells , for 3.200.00 then this one popped up and he got it for 500.00 on buy it now , I know you mid-east and east coast guys have these type of signs I've seen them , is this the way its going to go ???? I only see a few guys showing off , I guess the big collectors are above showing their stuff.

This sign could be found on a truck or loading (filler) dock, not all bulk plants had them, I even have a large envelope (unopened) to the bulk plant that says no smoking decals , this sign was a little fadded so i had it clear coated to bring the color back .

Thanks Dwaine, I was pulling your chain about the signs, they are just porcelain generics i used to use with photo shoots. I had a portable island, lights, pumps, etc. for display shots of cars.

Hello everyone! I think this 'No Smoking' sign was used at a service station. The sign appears to be silkscreened on heavy aluminum. Judging by the style of the lettering and the sophistication of the silkscreening, I'd put it in the late 40's or early 50's. There is a small amount of paint loss - but it still looks good. I currently have it hanging in my laundry room, but plan on moving it out to the 'Chicken Coop' in the spring. The temperature here in Michigan has hovered in the mid teens for the last couple of weeks and it's just too much effort to fire up the furnace in the 'Coop' and warm everything up just to hang out in my display room for an afternoon.
