Here is part of Petroliana that is never mentioned...or collected but was an integral part of the oil refining business. I know many of you like antique cars/trucks, so I posted these for your enjoyment.

Many or all oil refineries had their own firefighting equipment that were similar to Stoll's.

Fire drill?....hopefully

Here is one of my favorite pictures. I left it somewhat large for the details in it.

STOLL SIGNS

Besides the signs already pictured in the main text article, here are some more.

A close up of signs from the previous gas station image above:

On the earlier Golden-Tip signs, the arrow was longer, tips were pointed. Later signs had shorter proportions and the tips blunted. Colors changed from Blue & Gold to Brown & Gold. Also, the "Golden-Tip" hyphen was dropped to "Golden Tip".

What a great sign to have on your wall, lighting the room. The concave letters are filled with light bulbs.

Neon station sign pointing the way.

This is a really neat item that just surfaced. A paper clip from the Chas. C. Stoll Oil Co. which is pre-1918. "Aunt Martha Stoll Ballard just recently received this and passed the images on to me. The handle is enameled and advertises their Solite Lamp Oil.

GLOBES

Stoll Oli used just about every variation of globe style possible. I have never seen a company use as many "jeweled" metal body globes as they did. There are probably more of these in one photograph as actually exist today in collections!

Check this oval one piece chimney cap globe.

Rare one piece Silver Tip.

Probably the last style used before Stoll's buyout by Sinclair.

Gary:

Great article. Nice images and concise writing.

Don'tcha just wish you could find some Stoll globes sitting somewhere in their jeweled bodies?

Later . . .

Jim

Not only did Stoll Oil make extensive use of jeweled bodied globes on their pumps, but they were even used on brick columns!

This is my favorite photo, but you will probably hear that statement again! This contains all the "trimmings" of a classic early gas station.

Early oil dispensers from the above photo. You don't see this style often. These are Guaranteed Liquid Measure Co. dispensers, who also provided Stoll Oil Co. with their "Mae West" style gasoline pumps.

thought some of you pump guys would be interested in this 5 gallon Tokheim "Victory Visible" pump. Although not a "one of a kind", they are pretty rare. The enclosed glass cylinder is a unique feature found on very few visibles.
