I recently purchased this & was curious as if it's possible to remove the metal cap on the glass cylinder without breaking the glass. It really seams likes is sealed on pretty snug from over the years... right about 100 now!! I always thought there is also seal from the factory attached between the cylinder and cap when it was sold new. I just don't want to break the glass, but I would like to clean it somehow... eventually I'd like to put a nice sweaty sphere globe up top and need to deal with getting the right hardware replaced at the top where all the electrical meets as well, so I'd like to attempt to remove the cap if I can.... If anyone has some helpful advice / experience they can share with me, I'd greatly appreciate ya smile

Fry pumps use metal bands at each end of the glass cylinder. Always work on the glass with the pump standing on a solid surface. Never lay it down as gravity will take over quickly. Simple remove the hold down rods. It appears the the electrical conduit is missing? The top will lift off. You might need to bump it with your hands? Lay it carefully on the ground. Take a flat putty knife with a solid blade, running thru the handle. Carefully tap it into the cork gasket below the bottom metal cylinder ring. After a few taps going around the base, the cylinder will come loose. They are ungainly so be careful not to drop it. Paul www.severngaspumps.com
