Hi, I am restoring a Wayne Boyle Dayton 79.B visible pump that was a Standard Oil into a Texaco Fire Chief (no other reason except having being in a volunteer fire dept). Anyway, trying to decide if a 15" or a 13.5" globe (Texaco Star)would look better--any ideas what original size would have been? Also, do you use a regular degreaser to clean the oil off of a lubester prior to painting? Thanks

Just my opion but I like the 13.5" metal body. It looks more correct in size. To degrease anything, I use Purple Degreased from Home Depot. VERY....VERY..abrasive to skin. Wear eye protection and vinyl gloves. It will desolve aluminum if left on too long. Wash the cleaned surface several times after treatment to remove residue. Paul www.severngaspumps.com

I remember when I restored my first pump. I restored it to a fire chief as well all because I am a fireman. Now just 5 years later I have a house full of pumps and globes. It strange how this hobby can take over your house. As far as your question I like the 15 it really comes down to a personnel preference. Good luck on your restoration

I second Advertologist...15" or better yet 16.5" looks best on visibles...13.5" just looks too small. Especially that Boyle Dayton...that's a hefty pump which could definitely use the larger globe.

The 15 inch will definitely look better way up there!

MOST West Coast Companies used 15" globes at the time Visibles were used in stations.

Won't argue whats correct but my fry 17 looks better with a 13.5 in my opinion. Curves like a beautiful woman with just the right size globe on top.
