I assume you are referring to the Erie 70 "Guardsman" pump. If you are, the top was glass, but it had a brass surround, with the name of the oil company in stand up letters attached to the surround. I suggest you check out my article on this pump that I wrote for "Check the Oil!" magazine. I have literature on this pump if you are interested.
