Hello!
We have a old sign for MOBILOIL and don't have a clue
about it's worth.
It is about 24 inches in diameter, white porcelain or
enamel (don't know difference) background, double-sided
but one side has been painted with yellowing crusty
paint. Band around outside is intact but very rusted.
Words on it say: Ask here for Gargoyle Mobiloil.
There is a red gargoyle on it, and red lines through
the word gargoyle. Kids took potshots at it producing
11 chips on the side without paint-- 2 in gargoyle, 1
obliterated the S in ask, rest are more minor -- the
backside has 7 reflections of those marks.
Local dealer told us it was lollipop sign, fairly
worthless without the stand it was made for, and when
we couldn't give him a price we wanted, he offered us
$75 for it.

I looked up history of Mobil and it seems that this sign
was likely made during 1886-1906, so it seemed to me
that maybe $75 is a low price - I would say condition is
good but not excellent.

Should we remove the paint on the one side? Using what?
Should we take sign with us, sell it, and for how much?

Thanks a bunch! The internet is really great way to
do this type of thing. jwc
