Guys, I'm not a sign expert, but I have tried cleaning porcelain pump faces that are coated with similar porcelain. Deep scratches are not going to come out when gouged through the color. Fine scratches can be worked out using progressively finer water paper to 1500 or 1800, then using " Finese It" or other paint buff out polishes. The compound isn't strong enough to remove the scratches starting out. Minor spots and stains can be removed using SOS pads as long as there is soap on the pad to cushion the steel wool. Guys doing porcelain sign restoration spend hours touching up, sanding and refinishing to make the repairs unnoticeable. It only took seconds for me to tell you all i know.
