Don,
I have seen a photo of one of these guys before (several years ago). The info I have is merely an assumption on my part. I believe these to be some kind of award given to Conoco employees during the 20s. Be careful though. Conoco still uses the Minuteman logo on many of there more prestigious safety awards. All of the items that have shown up on E-bay lately with the words "Conoco Safety" and a picture of the minutman are "not" old items. A sure fire way to distinguish the old minuteman from the new minuteman safty logo is where his hand is placed on the rifle. The old logo has his hand over the end of the barrel. Conoco decided this wasn't very "safe" so when they resurrected the minuteman for their safety program, they moved his hand down the rifle so he's holding it instead of letting it rest on top of the barrel. I hope that helps.
Sorry for my delay in responding but my wife is expecting and we're in the middle of a transfer to Memphis.
