Although I have not personally seen one, I have been told that a "blue book" for pump identification exists. It is a compilation all pump serial numbers by manufacturer listing the exact date of manufacture. The book was supposedly compiled by the govt. during rationing to determine who got replacements.
The best source for colors for specific brands is the Gas Pump Collectors Guide which lists brand colors and markings. Trying to tie certain brands to current paint codes is okay, but don't expect the colors of the repro globes or signs/decals to even come close to the "authentic" color you have chosen. Maybe someone else knows where the identification books are available.
