Parts for Eco/Gilbarco Tireflater

I am restoring a Gilbarco tireflater that has the same internal parts as the ECO model 30 series. The diaphram is bad and will have to be replaced. This part is approx.1/8 thick and is constructed like a fan belt in that it has cotton belting between the rubber layers to stiffen it. I can cut out a piece of rubber to fit but do not know if the stiffness of the original is essential. Does anyone have experience with this? Help please. Steve
