Help with reset crank

I took the cover off the reset box (I guess that's what it is called...the box that the crank fits into) of a Bennett 766 to clean and paint it. When I put it back together, it didn't work. Is there a special trick to putting these things back together??? Yeah, I know I should have left it alone..It was working perfectly.
