: I purchased a Havoline Oil ad from a c.1924 Saturday Evening Post. It bore no affiliation to Texaco. I had always thought that Havoline was a Texaco brand name. What's the real history? When did the two companies merge?

Havoline was owned by the Indian refining co, New York. Texaco took controlling interest around 1931. They kept the name Indian Gas until the early 1940's
