The model 80 was introduced in 1946, and your unit was made sometime during that year. If you are looking for color ads, color sales literature or a parts manual for your pump, please email me.
If you are getting into pumps a copy of my Gas Pump Identification might be of help, you can get information about it at: www.crspub.com

What year is a 4B with a serial 78283? I have your book, and it is a great reference, but I don't see where the series and serial numbers are. Also, what does the serial mean on these?

I forgot, mine also had a small brass tag under the factory tag. This is about an 1 1/2" long and 3/4" tall. on the top line it has M&E and under that 6-12036. Does anyone know what this tag is and what it means?

Hi, Mike. Your M&S 80 with that serial # was made in about 1947. The brass M&E tag was applied by Standard Oil Co. after-market as a reference to maintenance that was performed on the pump throughout the years; no way to date that as far as I know.

Thanks for the help DL. I will probalby leave that tag off as this is going to be a sunoco pump after the Resto. I will save that tag, probably put it on the inside of the pump. Just a quick question, has anyone ever seen the ad glass for standard that went in the Ad glass top for the 80's? I have seen one Ad glass 80 in original standard 80, but the guy who owns it has a fence around his yard. He has alot of gas pumps and signs in his yard, and one day I caught him outside. I pulled over to talk to him, and before even I finished introducing myself he told me to leave, only using choice words. So I never did get to see that pump.

I don't think so. That was the second time I talked to him. The first was not much better.

Greetings,

I just finished restoring my first gas pump. A lot of bumping out and parts, but it was without a doubt, a labor of love.
It too was a Martin and Swartz Model 80. A glutten for punishment, at the same time I did a partial restoration of a vintage vendolator 56 7 Up machine, I must say, for a novist, I thought they both turned out pretty well. I would like to post pictures. How do I go about doing?
