I have an opportunity to purchase a round 6 ft (Banjo pole style) Texaco sign. It has been a while since I saw it, but as I remember it, it had no chips or noticeable flaws. The owner believes it is NOS and was never used. I want to be fair to the guy. What would be a reasonable price to pay? What might it sell for retial? I have no plans to sell it if it get it, just curious. I am not able to get any pictures at this time. Thanks for any advice. IP: Logged |

ALEX, IF THE SIGN IS AS NICE AS YOU SAY IT COULD BE WORTH AS MUCH AS $1,000! ALTHOUGH A VERY COMMON SIGN, SOMETIMES A CLOSE TO PERFECT 10 OR A 9+ IS THE ONE TEXACO SIGN YOU'LL EVER HAVE TO BUY. GAUGE YOUR STARTING PRICE BASED ON HOW MUCH THE SELLER KNOWS ABOUT WHAT HE'S GOT. START @ $300-350 AND GO AS FAR AS YOU LIKE. MAYBE IT'LL IMPRESS HIM FROM WHERE YOU STARTED AND WHERE YOU'LL GO IN PRICE. I HAVE A 6' er MYSELF. IT'S ABOUT A 6 IN COND. I PAID $200 FOR IT 6 YEARS AGO. IT WAS LOCAL AND HANDY...I TOOK IT UNTIL I FIND SOMETHING BETTER. KEEP US POSTED ON HOW YOU DO. DOC @ TAG.WEST IP: Logged |

Thanks Doc. I will keep you posted. Am curious if others have bought one that is a 9 or better and what they might have paid? My wife says, whatever it is.....it's too much. But, she's learning to appreicate things. One of her friends stopped over one day and she actually took her down to the basement to see the gaspumps. Maybe I had better buy her an Xmas present. I just bought a NOS 6' Texaco, with the ring for $875. It's a keeper. A few month's ago I bought 3, that would grade a 8, for $400 each. If it's mint, buy it! IP: Logged |

NOS, $875 with the ring? Killer deal Butch... I have a condition 9 Texaco in the pole that I wouldn't let go for less than $1500 (mainly b/c I like it). I got it with other stuff, so don't know exactly how much I paid... IP: Logged |

The first piece of my collection was a 6 ft. Texaco sign without the banjo. I paid $17.00 in 1997. It is a grade 8-9. I wish I could get that lucky everyday. I bought it at an estate auction and there were only about 25 people there. $600-$900 seems to be range. I know where there are a couple banjos still bolted to the concrete base but I have not figured out how to remove them without hiring a crane. My fear is that if I unbolt one, it will fall over in the street or worse yet, fall on me, not good. Steve
